Two fresh thoughts - Mini Therapy & Low-Tech

Hello human,

This week, I am curating products that are innovating in mental health/well-being space.

Today's Cool Product  -Being

Being positions itself as a unique self-therapy app (read: buddy) that cares. It's your mental health friend and self-care guide. While it's not an alternative to therapy it does a good job at helping you feel better no matter what state of mind you are in. Here's what is unique about Being:

  • Mini Therapy: Being offers a bite-sized therapy session called mini-therapy. These sessions are short (<10 minutes), interactive, and hyper-personalised.
  • Mini Habits: Mini-habits help you practice self-acceptance and self-care through small steps, and support anxiety release by helping you be in the moment.

While a lot of mental health or well-being apps talk about meditation, therapy, and mindfulness, Being pioneers the concept of self therapy.

Today's Interesting Read  -Low Tech Websites

This week, I'm curating articles around societal impacts of Technology. We've all heard about hosting apps on cloud, adding state-of-art technologies and modern looks to any websites we build. This high technology comes at a cost (energy consumption) that contradicts a premise on which Internet was built - Dematerialise society and decrease energy use.

Low Tech Magazine runs on a low-tech, self-hosted, and solar-powered server. How are they doing it?  - Static website, dithered images, no advertising, no third-party cookies, and no services.

The Internet is not an autonomous being. Its growing energy use is the consequence of actual decisions made by software developers, web designers, marketing departments, publishers and internet users. With a lightweight, off-the-grid solar-powered website, we want to show that other decisions can be made.

When we build software, we often project business impact. We might want to add a slide on the societal impact. You can reply to this email to let me know how you find Being app and the concept of low-tech websites. I read and respond to every single email :)

Note: I only talk about products that I personally tried. I haven't done any sponsored post so far. If I do one in the future, I will make sure to call it out.
